About This Course

Serving alcohol isn’t just about pouring drinks, it’s about doing it safely, legally, and with care. This course helps hospitality professionals understand the responsibilities that come with serving alcohol and how to create a safer, more respectful guest experience.

You’ll learn how to check IDs confidently, recognise signs of intoxication, manage difficult situations, and support guest wellbeing. Whether you’re new to the role or looking for a refresher, this course gives you the tools to handle alcohol service with professionalism and confidence.

Chapter 1 - Alcohol and the Law
Covers legal responsibilities for hospitality staff, including ID verification, refusal of service to intoxicated or underage guests, and the serious consequences of irresponsible service.
Chapter 2 - Understanding Alcohol
Explains alcohol content, drink strength, and how different beverages affect the body. Discusses alcohol tolerance, influencing factors such as weight, age, gender, and food intake, and how to pace service for safety.
Chapter 3 - Recognising and Managing Intoxication
Teaches how to identify physical and behavioural signs of intoxication and provides step-by-step techniques to manage guests calmly, offer alternatives, and refuse service politely when necessary.
Chapter 4 - Creating a Safe Service Environment
Focuses on teamwork, communication, and environmental safety. Explains how to prevent alcohol-related incidents, manage group behaviour, and ensure guest welfare through alert, coordinated service.
Chapter 5 - Ethical and Social Responsibility
Explores cultural attitudes toward alcohol, how to promote responsible choices, and the importance of respecting guests’ decisions not to drink. Reinforces care, inclusivity, and guest wellbeing as core hospitality values.
