About This Course

Fire safety is everyone’s responsibility—but Fire Wardens play a key role in keeping the team and guests safe. This course is designed for hospitality staff who are new to the role of Fire Warden or need a clear understanding of what to do in case of a fire.

You’ll learn what causes fires, how to spot risks early, and what steps to take if something goes wrong. The course is easy to follow, practical, and built for real restaurant and kitchen environments.

In this course, you will learn:

• What a Fire Warden is and what your duties include

• How fires start and what can make them worse

• The different types of fire and which extinguisher to use

• How to spot fire risks in kitchens and guest areas

• What to do if a fire alarm sounds or a fire starts

• How to guide people safely in an evacuation

• How to report problems and support your manager or fire officer

Each chapter includes a short quiz, with a final test at the end of the course. On successful completion, you will receive a certificate in “Fire Warden UK.”

Chapter 1 – Introduction to Fire Safety -
Explains why fire safety matters in every workplace and introduces the responsibilities of employers, employees, and fire wardens in preventing and responding to fire risks.
Chapter 2 – Basic Principles of Fire -
Covers how fires start and behave using the fire triangle (heat, fuel, oxygen), helping staff understand the foundations of fire science.
Chapter 3 – Classification of Fires -
Outlines the UK fire classes (A, B, C, D, F, and electrical) and explains why choosing the correct extinguishing method depends on knowing the fire type.
Chapter 4 – Basic Principles of Heat Transmission and Fire Spread -
Explains how fire spreads through conduction, convection, and radiation, showing how quickly a small fire can escalate in a workplace.
Chapter 5 – Common Causes and Consequences of Fires in the Workplace -
Identifies typical workplace fire risks such as faulty electrics, poor housekeeping, open flames, and unsafe storage. Covers potential consequences including injury, asset damage, legal issues, and business disruption.
Chapter 6 – Legislation and Fire Risk Assessment Requirements -
Summarises UK fire safety laws and employer duties, including the need for a written fire risk assessment and how it helps identify and control hazards.
Chapter 7 – Control Measures to Minimise the Risk of Fire -
Covers practical fire prevention methods including good housekeeping, safe waste management, equipment checks, and staff awareness training.
Chapter 8 – Structural Measures to Prevent Spread of Fire and Smoke -
Explains passive fire protection features such as fire doors, compartmentation, fire-resistant materials, and smoke barriers designed to limit spread.
Chapter 9 – Fire Detection, Fire Warning and Fire-Fighting Equipment -
Details detectors, alarms, extinguishers, sprinklers, and fire blankets, explaining how each works and when they should be used.
Chapter 10 – Requirements for Fire Plans -
Covers what a workplace fire plan must include: escape routes, assembly points, responsibilities, communication procedures, and emergency contact information.
Chapter 11 – Emergency Evacuation Procedures -
Explains how to evacuate safely, assist vulnerable individuals, guide guests, prevent re-entry, and ensure everyone is accounted for.
Chapter 12 – Conclusion and Summary of Key Learnings -
Reinforces the key principles of fire prevention, preparedness, safe response, and the vital role of fire wardens in maintaining a safe environment.
Chapter 13 – Regulatory References with Direct Links -
