About This Course

Accidents can happen at any time in fast-paced hospitality environments. Whether you're managing a burn, cut, allergic reaction, or a more serious medical emergency, knowing how to act quickly and safely is a vital part of your role. This course provides F&B staff in the UK with the essential knowledge to respond effectively, stay calm, and protect both guests and colleagues.

In this course, you will learn:

• The importance of first aid in hospitality and your legal responsibilities under UK regulations

• How to recognise and manage common injuries like cuts, burns, sprains, and fractures

• What to do in medical emergencies including choking, fainting, allergic reactions, and cardiac events

• How to protect yourself with personal safety and hygiene when giving first aid

• How to maintain and use a first aid kit

• How to communicate clearly with emergency services and follow proper reporting procedures

Each chapter includes a short quiz, with a final assessment at the end of the course. Successful completion earns a certificate in “First Aid Awareness U.K.”

Course Curriculum

6 Chapters

Chapter 1 - Introduction to First Aid in Hospitality
Covers the importance of first aid, legal responsibilities, and common workplace emergencies such as cuts, burns, and allergic reactions.
Chapter 2 - Basic Principles of First Aid
Introduces the “Three Ps” — Preserve life, Prevent further injury, Promote recovery — and explains the role and qualities of a first aider, including personal safety and hygiene.
Chapter 3 - Recognising and Managing Workplace Injuries
Explains how to identify and treat cuts, burns, scalds, sprains, and fractures, with step-by-step first aid guidance for each.
Chapter 4 - Dealing with Medical Emergencies
Covers choking, allergic reactions, fainting, shock, and cardiac emergencies, including CPR and emergency response steps.
Chapter 5 - First Aid for Common Illnesses
Outlines how to handle food poisoning, dehydration, diabetic emergencies, and seizures safely and effectively.
Chapter 6 - Preparing for Emergencies in Hospitality
Details how to maintain a first aid kit, follow emergency procedures, communicate with emergency services, and ensure workplace readiness.
