About This Course

In hospitality, great food and service start with cleanliness. From handwashing and uniforms to handling illness and staying alert on shift, personal hygiene is a non-negotiable part of food safety and guest trust. This course teaches kitchen and service staff how to stay clean, stay professional, and protect both the team and the customer.

Whether you’re prepping salads, running food, or managing service during a rush, your hygiene habits matter. This course covers the essentials—so you can work with confidence and care, every shift.

In this course, you will learn:

• What personal hygiene means in a hospitality environment

• Why hygiene matters to guests, teams, and public health

• Legal responsibilities for staying clean and reporting illness

• Daily hygiene routines, including handwashing, uniform care, and grooming

Each chapter includes a short quiz, with a final assessment at the end of the course. On successful completion, participants will receive a certificate in “Personal Hygiene Standards For F&B Staff.”

Chapter 1 – Getting Started - What Personal Hygiene Really Means
Introduces the concept of personal hygiene and why it is essential in hospitality. Explains how good hygiene protects guests, prevents contamination, and reflects professionalism.
Chapter 2 – The Basics - Staying Clean on Shift
Covers essential hygiene habits such as proper handwashing, clean uniforms, grooming standards, and keeping nails, hair, and personal items under control during service.
Chapter 3 – Not Feeling Well? Here’s What to Do -
Explains what staff must do when experiencing symptoms like fever, diarrhoea, vomiting, or infections. Covers reporting procedures, when not to work, and how illness can affect food safety.
Chapter 4 – On the Job - Hygiene During Your Shift
Focuses on hygiene actions required throughout the workday, including washing hands regularly, avoiding cross-contamination, using gloves correctly, and keeping work areas tidy and safe.
Chapter 5 – Conclusion and Key Takeaways -
Summarises the importance of maintaining high personal hygiene standards at all times. Reinforces that clean habits protect guests, the team, and the business.
